  • Interpreting in classes.
  • Interpreting at faculty board meetings and institutional meetings.
  • Working through slides and text books.
  • Compile terminology lists for different subjects.

Pros:

Cons:

  • Not knowing if the language combination you are working with will be sustainable.
  • Competing with freelancers.

Education:

B.Hons – Language and literacy studies.
PGCE – Further education and Training.

SATI (South African Translators Institution).

Advice to someone interested in pursuing a similar career:

Being an interpreter requires a specific skill of listening and talking at the same time.  It can be taught, but a strong background in languages will definitely be to your advantage.
