Advice to someone interested in pursuing a similar career:
Mechanical engineering is a broad field, with career opportunities in different industries. Before pursuing a career in mechanical engineering, you should try to get in contact with more than one person following this career. Mechanical engineers working at mines might have a vastly different experience to those involved in HVAC design for example. You might end up doing something completely different than what you had in mind, especially when considering the high unemployment rate in South Africa.
